Ability challenge is a yearly event which aims to break down social and mental barriers towards disability by focusing on the abilities of each individual rather than on their disabilities. Participants with a physical disability are paired up with non-disabled participants to face a number of challenging activities which must be overcome through strong communication and teamwork
This year 30 participants from Malta flew to Nice in France to test their nerves and skill through a number of gruelling challenges including paragliding, canoeing, caving, mountain biking, mountain trekking and kayaking. Participant Josephine Mangion found the experience to be tough but rewarding; “Our team had to work together to improve communication skills as one of us had a hearing impairment . It wasn’t always plain sailing but as we went along we discovered the strengths and weaknesses of each other and as a group we tried to use each other’s strengths to overcome our weaknesses.”
The event was made possible by sponsorship from a number of companies including NSTS. Ms Yasmeen Ariff from NSTS Travel & Leisure said that NSTS is proud to be a supporter of such initiatives and hopes to continue to support young individuals fulfill their utmost potential in the years to come.
